As you may already know, the weekend of 11th to 13th October marks the inaugural Salcombe Live music festival and we couldn’t me more excited.

A feast of live acoustic, folk and Americana music, jazz and blues, stand-up comedy and other entertainment, the weekend includes 35 live performances at venues around town, including events at our very own Island Street Bar & Grill.

In particular, it’s a treat to welcome special guest, Billy Rowan, aka THE UNDERCOVER HIPPY, who will make a detour from his band’s busy UK tour to play a lunchtime show with us!

Here’s what you can look forward to!

11th October - 9.30pm - Hannah White & The Nordic Connections

The artist the Evening Standard calls “an activist”, Hannah White is politically-inclined, an active humanitarian and an advocate for independent musicians and writers all over the UK. Most of all, however, she is the “arresting and wholly believable” (Acoustic Magazine) singer-songwriter that captures the hearts of her audiences nationwide gaining her acclaim from BBC Radio 2, BBC 6Music, Blues Matters, Maverick Magazine and many more.

Joining forces with Norwegian super group, The Connections, headed by legendary producer & composer HP Gundersen, this coming-together between UK and Norway has created a sound so current, and yet so deeply rooted in 70’s Americana, ‘Hannah White and The Nordic Connections’ is a revival of the most heartfelt music there is.

12th October - 10.00pm - Winter Mountain

A prodigiously gifted folk-rock songwriter with an extraordinarily soulful voice, Winter Mountain has released two critically acclaimed albums and toured the world.

His electrifying gifts as a live performer have earned him supports for Seal, Seth Lakeman, The Feeling, Paolo Nutini, Richard Thompson, Guy Garvey, Gomez, Rosanne Cash, Leann Rhimes, The Waterboys and many others. He brings with him his full band to Salcombe Live.

He recently appeared on BBC Radio 2 and featured in the prestigious Total Guitar Magazine.

12th October - 12.15pm - The Undercover Hippy (**Special Guest**)

The one and only Billy Rowan aka The Undercover Hippy will be making a special diversion to Salcombe during his band’s extensive UK tour to play an intimate lunchtime solo performance at Island Street Bar & Grill on Saturday October 12th.

It is something of a rare treat to catch Billy play a solo set and offers an opportunity to hear his songs in their rawest form, up close and personal, and to really connect with the lyrics and the performer. One of Billy’s biggest strengths is the way he manages to pack his songs full of political and social commentary whilst at the same time remaining playful and uplifting, and this playfulness is even more apparent in an acoustic setting.

Covering topics from fake news, internet privacy and the U.S. election, to nappy wearing barristers and best friends trying to snog your mum, his performance takes you on a rollercoaster of storytelling and thought-provoking protest pieces!
